Liu Jia has explored ‘ink and color on canvas’ for years, using daily objects, like toilet paper, and soap water to create textures. In this work ‘blue lotus’, the contrast between blue and black brings the lotus a certain gorgeous glow, that let us feel there is full of lively energy underneath the peaceful lotus. Because canvas can bear more ink and color than paper, the glow of the lotus varied in different layers, which is fascinating.
